FAQ's
Do you offer surveys and are they free?
Location dependant, we will. From our Factory our surveyor’s cover the North East and North Yorkshire. Our surveyor based down South covers the West side of London and surrounding areas. Our representative in Scotland covers Edinburgh and surrounding areas. Outside of these areas we may offer to survey at a cost or as part of an order.
We take full responsibility for the measurements from our survey. However, we must be notified of any changes after our visit, including but not limited to the thickness of floor & wall finishes.
We will provide a drawing and ask you to check that the proposal generally looks as expected.

Will my staircase be decorated?
We firmly believe that decoration to a staircase needs to be carried out by a professional, once in situ, otherwise there is a high risk of damage to the finished product whilst fitting. As such, it’s not something we offer. We can however offer recommendations for a French Polisher if this is something you require.
How will my staircase be finished?
Stairs leave Lowe & Simpson with a high-grade sand finish, perfect for you to apply your choice of stain, paint or varnish.
Will you remove my existing staircase?
Yes, we’ll carry out this work and dispose of the redundant staircase and materials on your behalf. However, if services are in the way such as electrics or plumbing, these will need to be removed by others. Removing a staircase or parts of a staircase may result in some plaster damage, albeit we try to keep this to a minimum. You will need to hire a plasterer separately if required.
Do you prepare stairwell openings?
No, you will need to appoint a builder or joiner who can carry out this work. Once an order is placed with ourselves we can give you the sizes necessary for the stairwell opening.
What about work to electrics, plumbing etc?
Any work required to services such as electrics and plumbing will need to be carried out by professionals, before and after our work, as required.
How do I finish the underside of my staircase?
Traditionally the underside or ‘soffit’ of a staircase is plastered. We provide the staircase with the back exposed and blocks & wedges visible. On request, we can under-board the staircase in the material to match the stairs, we can manufacture the staircase with secret fixings so that you see the backs of the treads and risers or you can choose and Open rise staircase so you can see through the staircase. Please contact us to discuss the options in further detail.
How does my staircase come if I order it pre-assembled?
All main runs (straight sections) will be assembled. Winders will be where possible, dry fitted with newel posts in our workshop but will be sent loose with handrails, baserails and spindles for fitting on site.
Can I pay for my stairs after delivery?
All orders require a full upfront payment or purchase order prior to the staircase(s) being manufactured.
